Atlantic Salmon
caught in East River October 2006 |

Those who fly fish understand the importance of being
in the right place at the right time. Rivers have their
seasons some are fishable early others late.
The ideal location for a fishing lodge in Nova Scotia
is where the best places to fish (on several rivers) are
within reasonable driving distance. Fly fishers know
that water conditions vary depending on the weather.
River levels and water temperatures are highly dependent
on rainfall. In Nova Scotia summer storms often skirt
the Atlantic Coast dropping much of their rain in the
ocean. When storms do come inland they frequently
provide rain to some river systems and totally miss
others. This is another reason to have your base lodge
located close to several rivers.
The
best salmon and sea trout fishing is found on the
northern shore of Nova Scotia in those rivers that empty
into the Atlantic Ocean. St Mary's Riverside is
extremely well positioned for successful fly fishing
from mid-May right through to the end of October.
Some of the best fall fishing is found on the East
River, New Glasgow which is only 45kms from the
property.
The West River (Durham) another excellent fall salmon
river producing big fish is approximately 60kms away.
Good spring and early summer fishing is found on the
St Mary's. After July 1st the Mosher River and
Musquodoboit River begin to fish and both of these are
less than 2 hours from the property. Some outstanding
fly fishing is available on Cape Breton Island less than
2.5 hours drive from St Mary's Riverside.
