The
St Mary's River Community is known for active &
collective protection of wildlife populations and
conservation of natural habitats. For generations the
Wild Atlantic Salmon has been at the centre of their
efforts but it doesn't stop there.Meet the Wood
Turtle! The largest population of this species of Wood
Turtle in North America lives on the wooded shores of the St
Mary's River.
In 2000 it was discovered that the Wood Turtle's
environment was being threatened due to lack of
awareness of the Wood Turtles' situation.
By 2004 the awareness was spread throughout the
community and now the populations of Wood Turtles are
sustained. Sure is a nice change to hear a good story
eh?
